Douglas Bird, BApB, ACP
Originally certified as a First Aid Instructor at age 18, Doug has lived a life committed to public service, first as a volunteer with the St. John Ambulance and later as a paramedic. He has worked with Don in the Ministry of Health BTLS training teams. He has also been an instructor with the York and Durham Regions' Paramedic Base Hospitals. He retired as a Quality & Development Facilitator with Region of Durham Paramedic Services in 2018.
Doug is a member of the National Association of EMS Educators and has completed level 2 Instructor's certification. He is an Instructor for The Canadian Red Cross, The Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation and an Instructor Trainer with the Emergency Care & Safety Institute.

Faye Bird, RN
Faye is a graduate of the Toronto East General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital for 13 years, then Whitby general for 4 with special interest in obstetrics and cardiac care. She studied patient assessment for an Emergency Nursing Certificate, and took the ACLS in 2000 for a position responding to emergency situations with the Greater Toronto Airport Authority. She also worked at Markham Stouffville and Scarborough Grace before moving to Lakeridge Oshawa permanently in 2003, all in the emergency department. She retired from full time nursing in 2013, and has since worked doing conscious sedation at dental offices around the region on a casual basis.
Donald Edwards, BSc, AEMT-P, PCP
Director of Education
Originally certified as a Paramedic in New York state in 1981, Don worked out of Greater Buffalo for several years before coming home to Ontario. He began teaching almost immediately after becoming licensed at Niagara Community College in Sanborn, NY.
As part of a Ministry of Health mobile instruction team, he taught Basic Trauma Life Support to paramedics all over South Central Ontario. Don went on to found his own special events EMS company, Medstat, and successfully ran that until his first retirement. We were lucky to get Don to come out of retirement and into the classroom. Don is a member of the National Society of EMS Instructor/Coordinators and the National Society of EMT-Paramedics.
Lead Instructor, Wilderness Programs
Andre has 30 years of experience instructing. He has taught survival training, map & compass, escape & evasion training, and fieldcraft for the Canadian Armed Forces. He is certified by the Canadian Red Cross as an Instructor for First Aid & CPR. He is a full-time consultant and trainer for the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association and has been a member, leader, and trainer for Scouts Canada continuously since 1971. He is also certified as an instructor through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute and the Canadian Red Cross. He is well known for his Wilderness First Aid courses.
Gonzalo Rocha, EMT-P, ACP
Hailing from the great state of Texas, Gonzo has over 25 years of EMS experience under his belt. He has experience as both a ground and air Paramedic. In 2015, he received an award for being the Paramedic with the most cardiac calls in Durham Region. He is an Instructor certified through Heart & Stroke, Canadian Red Cross, and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute.

Brock is an Advanced Care Paramedic with over 10 years experience. He is currently taking the Adult Education Program at Durham College. He is the co-inventor of the R.O.A.M.A. The Rapid Oral Airway Measuring Adjunct.

Karen's multifaceted experience with animals makes her an ideal addition to our team. Her experience includes an Animal Care Specialist Diploma from Universal Career Institute and Animal Care Studies at Durham College. She is the owner of K9 Motion in Wellness, a Certified Canine Massage Therapist, has experience with K-9 Security Obedience and Dog Handling Program Level 1 & 2, High Risk Sites, and Specialized K-9 dogs, and has taught animal husbandry in elementary schools.

Eric graduated from the PSW course at Durham College in 2011, and now assists us around the office, online, in kit and course preparation, and with a variety of other tasks, including writing blog posts and articles!
