Intermediate First Aid

Formerly Standard First Aid

Intermediate First Aid is for anyone. If you are a business that employs more than five persons, under regulation 1101 of the workplace Health & Safety Act you must train your staff to this level.

This is a 16-hour course with seven-hours of practical hands-on training.

Course Design and Content

  • Preparing to respond

  • The EMS system

  • Check, Call, Care

  • Airway emergencies

  • Breathing and Circulation emergencies

  • First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest

  • Wound care

  • Head and spine injuries

  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries

  • Sudden Medical Emergencies

  • Environmental Emergencies

  • Poisons

Includes any other content required by specific legislation

Duration

Blended Intermediate First Aid: 8 hours of online learning, 5.5-7.5 hours of teaching time

Re-Certification

Intermediate First Aid: 6.5–7.5 hours, includes CPR Level A or C and AED, and adheres to local legislation 

Blended Intermediate First Aid: 4 hours online learning, 3-4 hours of teaching time

Course Duration
Completion

Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate all required skills, including critical steps; 100% attendance and participation; 75% minimum passing grade on a written, closed book knowledge evaluation; and adherence to the Fundamental Principles.

Certification

3-year certification in Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level A or C, and AED.
